Whitney’s joy was infectious-her bright smile, her laughter, her love for everyone she met. She reminded us to embrace life with kindness and an open heart.
The Whitney “HotShot” Vaughan-Christopher Memorial Scholarship was created to celebrate the achievements and bright futures of our talented students while celebrating the memory of our beloved daughter, Whitney Vaughan-Christopher.
Though she is no longer with us physically, her spirit continues to illuminate the lives of those who knew her. In her short time with us, she left an indelible mark of kindness, compassion, and unwavering determination.
It’s been asked of us, “What is the significance of RowLikeWhit?” Well, she’s not part of a rowing team — so why ‘Row’?
In Lago Vista, we are Vikings. Vikings are often portrayed as violent, ruthless, and driven by less-than-ideal traits. But what most people don’t know is that at the heart of Viking culture is a motto symbolized by four letters: AeTT, which means “Family” in Norwegian Viking folklore. This concept of family is woven into the very fabric of who we, as Lago Vista Vikings, strive to be every day.
Before Vikings would storm a beach with their massive ships, they rowed — together, with vigor, precision, and strength. This unity is something we hold dear. As Lago Vista Vikings, we live by the saying, “We All Row,” a mantra that is deeply rooted in the amazing, nationally celebrated spirit of our cheer team.
After Whitney’s tragic accident, which left a massive hole in all of our hearts, the cheer team coined the phrase, “Row Like Whit.” But this phrase is more than just words; it is a guiding principle — a reminder of the strength, resilience, and unity that we must embody every day. It is the foundation of who we strive to be, both individually and as a community.
“Row Like Whit” is not just a phrase; it is a commitment to each other. It reminds us to push forward with the same vigor, strength, and precision that the Vikings did in their raids, rowing together as one. It encourages us to keep moving, together, no matter the hardship, and to honor the legacy of Whitney by embodying the values she represented.
Whitney traveled with the Cheer team in one of their historic National Championship runs as an athletic trainer. Whitney’s selfless efforts were to prepare the lady’s to perform at the highest level embodying the spirit of “We All Row”.
Now, you know the story behind it.
